SCA has a talented, versatile management team, a group whose eclectic blend of personalities and technical skills combine to create an innovative firm.

CHERYL (DENNIE) SMITH, AIA Founder and President of the firm, Dennie is responsible for the overall design direction and business development activities of Smith Consulting Architects. In addition to managing the office, Dennie remains involved in the design aspects of many projects, including making use of her skills in site and space planning.

MARK LANGAN, AIA, LEED AP Vice President quality control and senior project architect, has been with the firm since its founding in 1988. Mark spearheaded SCA's penetration of the golf market by successfully signing Callaway golf as first anchor client. Mark's team recently completed the 220,000 square foot Callaway Golf Ball facility in Carlsbad. Mark is committed to maintaining a high degree of technical competency within the firm, and is responsible for the firm's continuing education program.

V. SCOTT CAIRNS, AIA, LEED AP Vice President business development and senior project architect, joined SCA in 1995, bringing with him an expertise in the telecommunications industry. Scott was instrumental in securing a $12 million contract for a manufacturing plant for Qualcomm, Inc. In addition to his skills resolving city and county permitting issues, Scott is challenged with the task to market and promote SCA's architectural, land planning and design services.

PETER BUSSETT, AIA, LEED AP Vice President and senior architect, joined the firm in 1996 with experience encompassing the design and production of office, industrial and biotech facilities, and several years in construction management. Pete has directed teams for such notable projects as Gen-Probe's 291,000 sq. ft. GCD2 campus expansion, 17 buildings at Opus Point, Scripps Park West, Bressi Ranch Medical Plaza and River Plaza Office Park in Sacramento. Currently, Pete is leading SCA's efforts in the military and public project sectors.

GARY BAKER, LEED AP Vice President of design services and senior architect, brings 26 years of design and project management experience to SCA. With specific expertise in master planning, site planning, building and interior architecture, Baker is responsible for all phases of project design. A LEED Accredited Professional since 2004, he is the office expert in sustainable design and is dedicated to integrate sustainable design principals into all projects while meeting the vision and goals of our clients. Baker joined the firm in 1994.
